        This site has percents and information regarding why people are so obese. 
            ~Currently, the statistics show that around 33% of the US population is obese and 67% of the US population is overweight.
            ~Obesity is strongly linked to sugar intake.
            ~Mcdonalds has a goal of being less than four minutes from any persons home.
            ~In the year 2000 obesity was killing about 300,000 people per year and costing around 117 billion dollars per year.

           This site has information on fast food and peoples eating habits. 
                ~25 percent of Americans consume fast food every day.
                ~According to this Google map, there are close to 50,000 fast food chains across the United States, with McDonalds being the largest restaurant chain. In the world, there are more than 500,000 fast food places. Kids between the ages of 6 and 14 eat fast food 157,000,000 times every month. Ninety-six percent of kids in school could recognize an image of Ronald McDonald, the face of McDonalds. The only recognizable figure that ranked higher was Santa Claus. To top it off, Americans spend nearly $100 billion on fast food every year.

Dr. Spencer talked about the processed foods that we eat on a daily basis that can be found in grocery stores. She also helped reveal the secrets behind the labels on foods like "all natural" or "natural ingredients. Dr. Spencer also touched upon the health eating habits like eating fruits and vegetables and why fast food or junk food will appeal to us in a more aromatic sense. She mentions chemicals that taste and smell like foods that re put in our food, initially tricking our minds and tongues into think it is a good food. Dr. Spencer informed us about why we ear garbage and what it physically does to our bodies.

4. Church, Julie Malloy. Personal Interview by Jorie Rao, Nina Albone and Phile Cole. April 6 2011. 

Mrs. Malloy Church discussed the more mental side of eating and the problems that can arise. For instance she touched upon bingeing, purging and how the behaviors themselves, as well as he food can be addictive. Mrs. Malloy Church also talked with us about the social problems associated with food consumption. According to her, childhood food habits will effect adult eating habits and that certian food become associated with emotions or activities and therefore the people eat due to the association. Branching off of that she talked about why we gravitate towards fatty, salty and sweet foods causing bad eating habits.

This is an online publication talking about a book by Wendell Berry, and although it was published in 1990, the words still ring true to today. He talks about how the american consumer does not know how their food is prepared to be brought to them to eat, and how most of them either don't care, don't know, or don't even want to know because in some ways, ignorance is bliss. He claims we have forgotten a lot about what eating used to be and that we are now victims of the industrial food factories. At the end, he gives seven suggestions for trying to be more prepared and aware, including hands-on research, growing your own garden, and preparing your own food.

6. Lange, Jim. Personal Interview by Phil Cole, Jorie Rao, Nina Albone. April 21 2011.

  Jim was asked to explain why he eats fast food instead of preparing food at home. His answers all pointed to his lifestyle. He is a college student who is constantly on the go and prefers to eat that way as well.

7. Cerquoni, Helena. Personal Interview by Phil Cole, Nina Albone and Jorie Rao. April 23 2011.

Helena is a proud "slow food" eater. She prepares her meals and has cut sugar and flour out of her diet. This has been her personal way of bettering her diet since she was 27 years old. Her lifestlye is more adaptive to a slow food preparation, even thought she claims it is still difficult.
